We are opening nominations for the first time to our alumnae community for the prestigious St. Katharine Drexel Medal Award.
About St. Katharine Drexel:
Born into a prominent Philadelphia family in 1858, St. Katharine Drexel once walked the very grounds of our school campus. She devoted her life and fortune of $20 million to serving the spiritual and educational needs of Native Americans and African Americans.
At age 33, she founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, dedicating her life to the betterment of those she served. St. Katharine Drexel opened the first mission school for Native Americans in New Mexico and later established schools across the southern and southwestern United States. She also founded Xavier University in New Orleans, the only historically Black Roman Catholic institution of higher education.
In recognition of her faith and selfless service to the oppressed, St. Katharine Drexel was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 1, 2000, becoming the second American-born saint.
About the St. Katharine Drexel Medal:
This award is presented annually to a graduating senior and a Prendie alumna. It honors individuals who embody the Christian way of life, reflecting St. Katharine Drexel’s dedication to faith, service, and being a role model of Christ-like living.
Nominate a Fellow Alumna:
We invite you, our alumnae, to help us celebrate those who live out the mission of St. Katharine Drexel. Nominate a deserving alumna who exemplifies her spirit of service and commitment to faith in action.
Let’s come together to honor the legacy of St. Katharine Drexel and recognize outstanding members of our community.
